The client and what we did for them
Det Fælles Medicinkort (FMK) is Denmark’s national shared medication record - a visionary concept, but one that proved complex to roll out consistently across hospitals, general practices, municipalities and emergency services, to the point that Region H had at one stage suspended its implementation.
Symmetric’s work, commissioned by Nationalt Sundheds-IT (NSI) and SDSD, covered workflow analysis and design, implementation project management at hospital level, national evaluation design, user experience proposals and technical use-case qualification.
Our Approach
An interim evaluation mapped FMK’s distribution status and identified local challenges and opportunities across hospitals, general practices and emergency services, using data extraction, surveys, interviews and observation. The evaluation framework itself used pre- and post-implementation measurement, observation guides and process diagrams built to the BPMN standard, with quality parameters and benefit-measurement tools focused on process optimisation rather than medication-error reduction specifically.
Outcome
The work gave NSI and SDSD a clear, evidence-based picture of where FMK was and wasn’t landing operationally, plus the evaluation tools and use-case groundwork to keep improving adoption.
